3D Scanner Robotic Inspection Cell

End-to-end robotic inspection cell built at Magna International — integrating 3D scanning workflows, measurement validation, and operational dashboards to make quality data visible and actionable on the factory floor.

Problem

Inspection was fully manual — slow, inconsistent, and dependent on individual operator judgment.

Quality issues were hard to quantify or trend because no structured data was being captured.

Operators needed tooling that was simple enough to use under production pressure without training overhead.

Solution

Designed and integrated a full scanning and measurement workflow directly into the robotic cell.

Built operator-facing UI and backend reporting to track cycle time, downtime, and inspection outcomes in real time.

Delivered Grafana and Power BI dashboards that gave engineering and operations teams a shared view of cell performance.

Key Engineering Decisions

Separated inspection logic from the UI layer so each could be updated independently as requirements evolved.

Standardized all output formats upfront to ensure clean integration with downstream analytics and reporting tools.

Prioritized operator usability over feature completeness — a workflow used correctly is worth more than a rich one that gets bypassed.

Results

Replaced manual inspection with an automated, data-generating workflow — making failure modes observable for the first time.
